Metamorphosis

After my trip to Colombia, I began to experiment more with composition, lighting and perspective. I was beginning to take interest in photographing people around 10th and 11th grade so I found intriguing faces to photograph. :) I had fun and met new people as well.

Who am I and why do we care???

During my first year at RIT I was still in search for my personal style and what type of photographs I enjoy taking. I definately know I love conceptual photoshoots, since I always have some crazy idea about some thing that I don't always choose to share. As the years go by I hope to be more risky about my messages and really portray what I mean to say with out being overtly literal. Muahsss... this is a year of emotional extremes and I hope my work shows the extreme lows and highs of my personality. It may be percieved as being bad or good, but I rather be annoying and have some one laugh or cry (not really cry) than to have them bored around me. Never the less I know when to get serious and work on the general idea.

Deconstructing Memories

The prototype of a Hispanic woman is contructed by what you remember her to be. The series symbolizes maternity and strength despite the role that most of them play as housewives in the kitchen.

Edward Steichen

Fashion photographer during the 1920´s and 1930´s. His work introdeces a classy and purposely posed senario. The photographs remind me of the secretive life of the rich or famous, because though the people in the photographs seem to have a great time, darkness prevails. This dramatic lighting hides the truth and its not a negative thing.. it makes the photographs more interesting....

Lauren Greenfield (week 5)

I went to the Lauren Greenfield seminar and listening to what she had to say was truely inspirational. For instance she decided to confront what bothered her about her youth, which was dealing with popular culture and the desires that teens had to be a part of that. That personal project lead to the thin project which hit the point of obsession with this pop culture at a higher level. Now it was not about the culture but the internal trauma of the individual. Her work is not about photography itself or art but about what you can do with your talents. Without having a meaning behind the work there is no real meaning. (maybe I should go into fine art) She also has a unique multimedia approach, combining film, photography and some graphic (text). It definately makes a statement.

Cassie Worley (week 4)

Her work is like cut out pieces of the story. The tactice of leaving some to the imagination is an interesting one that i wish to incorporate in my own work. The soft focus of most of the images is captivating and secludes each photograph and character as a unique scene.

Richard Avedon (week3)

From grunge to grace. His work has a morbid yet graceful quality that lures the viewer in and has them wonder for a while about the photograph. His lighting in some of the black and white photographs is very elegant and not overly dramatic something that I have been inspired by lately.

What inspires me (Week2)

Andriete Le Secq, demonstrates her knowledge about composition and lighting. The photograph that incorporates the yellow fabric, is strongly composed, since there is more than one interest point. The muted colors also appeal to me. It seems like such a spiritual photograph. The other photographs have soft but dreamy lighting. It is a more direct and formal style than what I find appealing.
